Whereas my task lists vary because my use of a task list comes and goes with life.)Īnyway I have now signed up to Dynalist for a year. ![]() I use it everyday for my core business so I need it to just be there and work constantly without faffing. I don't plan to oscillate between WF and DL (this is something I always do with to-do lists but don't have the inclination to find the perfect notes app like I do with to-do apps. I've now spent more time with DL and, on balance, I prefer it. Ironically it's exactly what I'm complaining about here:Ī somewhat topsy-turvy response to my own original post. Take this for example: I just googled for "OPML import" and someone else had brought something up in the comments section of the WF blog and. This is almost completely offset by Workflowy's slightly broken promises - or at very least the inability to meet with what I'd consider to be reasonable requests over the years. Likewise it would be difficult to change years of day-in-day-out using certain keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl-Space I cannot do without), appreciating the little dot with shading around it (rather than the Dynalist dot with circle around it), Alt-Arrow not taking me into a list item but rather switching documents (argh), Ctrl-B or Ctrl-I formatting showing markdown instead of actually showing the item bold or italic when that item is selected, but not when it's not (why Dynalist, why?!) and a few more tiny things. I feel I *need* the minimalism offered by Workflowy. My preference of WF is, doubtless, entirely irrational. Dynalist is more expensive and I appreciate / agree that Dynalist has functionality that justifies this additional expense and think the developers have a great product, but I just don't *need* the additional functionality and cannot justify adding yet another monthly bill to the ever-growing list of web services I pay for (currently costing me many £hundreds per year. I had previously paid for Workflowy, but I don't want to pay for Dynalist. ![]() It threw me off my game pretty badly during that meeting, but hey it's my fault for not paying attention and realising what might happen when you sign up for a free trial. ![]() Seriously - the keyboard shortcuts have become second nature to me.)ĭynalist Pro allows you to map keyboard shortcuts, so I continued merrily along my way for the following 14 days, until the free trial ran out - and right in the middle of an important meeting with a client, I was unable to Ctrl-Space to expand / contract a list. It's like ditching an old friend for a new one, they might be as good in every way if not better, but where's your soul if you replace a friend like that. So I tested Dynalist for 14 days, and I was immediately met with what felt like a foreign environment as the keyboard shortcuts felt wrong. Help! I'm still not 100% convinced I want to move back to WF yet but I want to spend more time thinking about it. I can't re-import my stuff back to Workflowy from Dynalist!ĭynalist has an OPML export so that's fineīut Workflowy is screwing me because a) there's no dedicated OPML import - you have to paste the OPML into a document, b) there's a a maximum limit of 10,000 items to import and c) the non-pro version won't allow me to import any more than 250 items at a time
